Wanted: Tucson Gamers

Hey folks -- [info]khyri and I are looking for people in the Tucson area who like roleplaying games and want to start gaming together. We're in our late 30s/early 40s, and look for mature folks (not necessarily people the same age) who enjoy RPing. I'm the gamemaster, usually, and I enjoy running games more than playing them -- and I'm pretty good at it, too.

We mostly play D & D (3.5), although we're looking to start a game playing the (newly revised) World of Warcraft RPG (d20/D & D based), and maybe various odd things like the Dying Earth RPG or Nobilis. Also, I've recently been working on Wandering Monsters High School, a fun little formerly-24-hours RPG, and playtesters would be nice.

So if you're in the area and are interested, drop me some email at NextOfKynn@gmail.com.

Crossposted a couple places.

Your journal has an awful lot of activity over the course of a day.

Have you picked up any Storyteller system RPGs that caught your eye?

I've never cared for any Storyteller games, nor really many of the people who play them, honestly.

If you are referring to the gentlemen in the corner that wear capes and smell of french-fried potatoes, we can agree that certain circles that congregate around a ten-sided die are to be avoided.

However, I could say the same about some stereotypical d20 gamers. Sift past the angst-ridden settings, and there are plenty of legitimate and entertaining cosmologies to explore under the aegis of White Wolf. I recommend Adventure! without reservation.

I've got it, but never found anyone to play it with.

I'm friends with one of the White Wolf game designers, who worked on Adventure!.

Not Andrew Bates?

If you run a game of Adventure!, I'd show up. I must admit I don't know if that's a mark for or against the idea, in your book. :)

Jim Kiley.

I dunno if I'd be able to run an Adventure! game. It's neat, but it's out of my normal genre comfort zone. I'd love to play it, though.

Two-fisted pulp action is my forte, though my work schedule would preclude games that started before midnight. If that changes I shall have to remember to e-mail you.

Yow. That's some work schedule. What do you do?

I am a bureaucrat. I issue marriage licenses and process passport applications, as well as various civil actions.

Heh, old school. I've been wondering what the WoW RPG game is like and how much it actually has in common with the MMORPG WoW, which I play.

It's kind of close to the WoW MMOG and kinda not in other ways. Some classes are very close (e.g. Paladins and Hunters) while others are not quite so close.

There was a Warcraft RPG put out before WoW came out, that basically was a D&D campaign set in the Warcraft (I-III) universe; the WoW RPG is the second edition, in effect, of the Warcraft RPG and therefore has to be somewhat backwards compatible with the ("first edition") Warcraft game.

I am working on a set of mods to make the WoW RPG more like the WoW MMOG. It's not too difficult; there are some neat concepts in the MMOG which could use some d20 RPG adaptation.

What server are you on, and what do you play?

Woops, sorry, that was me -- don't seem to be logged on with this browser right now. Fixed.

My main is a 60 Human Priest on Stormreaver. I have quite a few alts both on Stormreaver and other PVP servers, none over mid-twenties.

August 31 2005, 00:55:42 UTC 6 years ago

Heh. PvP, and a human priest. Well, not surprising, I suppose.

[info]backliteyes

August 31 2005, 01:38:42 UTC 6 years ago

Contrary to not being surprising, Priests are relatively rare compared to several other classes. Humans aren't the most populous race either, that would be Night Elves.

I probably wouldn't have been on a PVP server at all, except the only people I knew happened to be on that server. For the vast majority of the time I only PVP when I'm forced too. I find it not worth the time/effort.

[info]kynn

August 31 2005, 03:29:33 UTC 6 years ago

That's okay, I don't find you worth the time and effort either, so it all balances out.

[info]backliteyes

August 31 2005, 04:51:40 UTC 6 years ago

Then why reply? Obviously you find the time and effort to throw petty insults at me worth it. For what result, trying to make me go away? I hope the time and effort isn't worth it just for pure glee. That would be about as immature as it gets.

Wow, that got nasty pretty fast.

[info]kynn

August 31 2005, 06:40:50 UTC 6 years ago

You've obviously missed the long thread that wouldn't die. It took a good long time to get nasty, about the time that [info]backliteyes pulled out the bullshit that "gays have the right to get married, they can marry someone of the opposite sex, ha ha!"

I can't respect anyone who claims to be a member of the same religion as me, and uses that religion in order to make my friends second-class citizens of the United States.

Amen to that. Up to that point you had the patience of the Buddha. I was impressed. I wouldn't have made it a tenth as far as you did without getting nasty, so I stayed out of it.

Actually I am familiar with that particular thread. While I happen to disagree with [info]backliteyes on that subject, I am generally able to seperate a person from their arguments. As a matter of fact I've had a dust-up of my own with her, though I fancy we can discuss other topics without difficulty.

If you have no time for anyone with differing opinions, you will quickly run out of contemporaries. For example: I agree largely with your stance on marriage, but disagree with your stance on immigration. Should you decide to ignore me completely, you will be intentionally alienating a potential ally for certain social battles.

I made the mistake of thinking that the maturity level was high enough that when discussion was started on a completely different thread that insults wouldn't be almost the first thing I was met with.

But people can't agree to disagree. So I'll agree to disagree, Kynn will agree to insult me, and life, commenting and the genral LJ-world will continue to turn 'round.
